Gomoku, also known as Five in a Row, is a strategic board game for two participants. Played on a square board with 19×19 points in the traditional version or 15×15 points in the modern competitive version, players take turns placing stones in two different colors. Victory goes to the player who first forms an unbroken line of five stones in their color vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. The game exists in numerous variations, each with its own rule differences. It is thought to have originated in China over two thousand years ago. Today, Gomoku is played worldwide, with sporting tournaments organized around it.
